See. Caroline. Bike.
I am allowed to make fun of Caroline from San Francisco because she is one of my most favorite people. And because she is so freaking cool there is usually nothing to make fun of.
But behold Exhibit A:
Recently Caroline was asked to participate in a Columbia Sportswear insert for a Japanese lifestyle magazine called Madame Figaro Japon, which is (duh) printed almost entirely in, well, Japanese.
So, until a friend translated for her, Caroline had no idea what the article said. But she did know that the stylists on the set fell in love with the turquoise socks she was wearing and built her whole outfit around them, down to the bike. "WHY, oh WHY did I wear those socks that day?!?" she wrote to me - and I could almost hear Scarlett O'Hara in the background of the email.
If you are interested, here is what the article did say:
"Caroline was born in 1969. Her favorite color is pink. She likes to ride her bike around the town. She loves Church Street Apothecary (the store she's in front of) because they have a lot of children's stuff that inspires her for her line of children's clothing made from vintage fabric. She also thought she would go down to Fisherman's Wharf and try to catch some fish, or maybe attend a Gay Prep School Convention."
OK, I added that last line myself.

Okay, before anyone gets upset that aimee is allowing an anti-gay comment on her blog, let me just say that it's all in jest. I, in fact, am so gay and have teased aimee mercilessly for all the times that she said - in the 80s - that very "that's so gay" phrase. Soooo, don't anyone get mad at her. Okay? Okay.

Caroline is not gay, but i kissed her on the lips once. It was nice. We fell in love.
LOL, never said she was gay... I said *attend* a Gay Prep School Convention. I was more envisioning the dudes who model for Abercrombie & Fitch... all in one room together. Yum.
Wait, you know other people here? And so in one more way I am not unique...
And I love that store, we have friends that live right nearby. GAY friends, for all that.

Yes, Caroline is one of my oldest friends as a matter of fact. AND we stayed with her for our honeymoon trip to San Fran 11 years ago when we were poor as churchmouses. I also have another really good friend who lives there named Bob. Who *is* actually gay!
And I love how this post, which really was more about making fun of Caroline's get-up has launched Google ad's into putting ads like "Are You Gay?" in the side bar. That is awesome.
Although I think I am not supposed to comment on that stuff. Oops.
