American Idol: The Top Ten

A good night. A solid night.

I just have one question. What demented prom did Paula attend before the show? With the gloves. And the bracelets. And the WEIRD.

Ramiele Malubay
Alone

So, we have another kiddo sick. At my work, we have received all this literature from the CDC about planning for a flu pandemic, but clearly American Idol has been throwing away their leaflets without even a second glance. It's like the Year of the Flu. Problem is, the flu was not Ramiele's issue tonight. Have these contestants never watched the show before? DO NOT DO SONGS THAT WERE NAILED BY PREVIOUS CONTESTANTS. In this case, DO NOT SO SONGS THAT WERE NAILED BY THE #2 MOST POPULAR FORMER IDOL OF ALL TIME. You will never live up. Coupled with the #1 Death Spot, I think this is the end of the road for little Ramiele.

Jason Castro
Fragile

OK, so I love me some Sting, but that is about the easiest song in the while wide world to sing. *I* could sing it. And I love how he says he is sloppy with his guitar playing. HOW ABOUT SINGING BETTER? It was weak, but he's cute so he'll hang out for a few more weeks.

Syesha Mercado
If I Were Your Woman

Yeah, she sang well. Screechy in some parts, but really nice in others. But she is still suppressing the bitch with all her might, ain't she? And PLEASE, for the love of god, do not EVER do that baby cry again on film, in public, or near another human being. It doesn't make you cute. It makes you freaky.

Chikezie
If Only For One Night

Aww, maaannn. I think they were WAY harsh on the dude. I thought he sounded GREAT. Declan literally held up his hand for a high-five when he was done. (He's got the 5 year old vote at least). Sure, he is more perky and fun when he does the funky country thing - but his VOICE (you know, for the singing competition) sounds great in the R&B kind of vibe.

Brooke White
Every Breath You Take

I am seriously digging her. If she doesn't go to R movies, does she drink? Cause I would like to have a drink with her. I love that she messed up the beginning and it only made her more endearing. And I disagreed with the judges - I liked how the song swelled at the end, otherwise I think it would have become boring. Go Brooke.

Michael Johns
We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions

Thank you, Lord. FINALLY. A home run! He sounded awesome. He looked awesome. He was awesome. It was awesome. Awesome awesome awesome. Clearly he has a connection with Queen songs.

Carly Smithson
Total Eclipse of the Heart
Where in the world does this girl get her dresses? The dumpster? And does she have an aversion to a little thing I like to call sleeves? As for the song, I did think it was a good match for her voice, a totally safe and annoying match for her voice that she did OK with till she plummeted at the end. She'll be fine this week, though, since everyone will be speed-dialing for her after that scare last week. And what is up the weird hip gyrations?

David Archuleta
You're The Voice
David and Audience Girl, sitting in a tree, k-i-s-s-i-n-g! He should have just asked her to prom right them and there! Awwwww! Then he TOTALLY will win American Idol! As for the song, I was waiting for Rob Lowe to come out from the wings with Snow White and start dancing! It was so freaking Disney! In a word, *perfect* for American Idol. And let's not forget he is still a kid. So, even though I hated the song, I liked the tempo for him and he did sing it well.

Kristy Lee Cook
God Bless The USA
Here is a girl who understands marketing and knows that if she is voted off after singing God Bless the USA, the terrorists will have won. But you know what, I hate that song so much I really don't care if the terrorists win. Oh fine. Yeah, yeah, she sang it much better than she has sang anything ever before (she must be filled with the love of god and country or something) and she's safe for one more week.

David Cook
Billie Jean
Dude blew it out of the house. Again. Nuff said.

==================

Bottom three?

Ramiele
Chikezie
Syesha

With Ramiele going home.

And you?

David Cook was awesome! Wow. I have never said that before. I mean, I like him but tonight he was by far THE best. Everyone else I wanted to fast forward through. Even my beloved Brooke who warms my heart with her endearing nature.

I hate Syesha. I don't care if she sings well. She BUGS. Please send her away. Or Ramielle. I wouldn't miss either.

I'm in the minority, but David Cook's slowed-down version of Billie Jean didn't do that much for me. I think it's because Billie Jean is one of those iconic songs you shouldn't really mess with. Ballsy, though.

When Cook started out, I thought "oh no, this is going to be horrible", but I have to say, he nailed it. I'm impressed with his willingness to do something more than the same ole same ole. He was by far the best of the night.

I give Ramiele a pass for being sick. Jason should go home for that performance, but agree that his cuteness will keep him in. I think it might just be Syesha...I never put my finger on what I didn't like about her until your bitch reference. Perfect! One other note: little David had better watch out. His cuteness is starting to wear a bit thin. He needs to get back to the type of performances he put out in the beginning weeks. I used to think he was a shoe-in, but not any more.

Sizzle - YES!!!! THE SWAYING ARMS! MAKE THEM STOP!

And Kathy and June, I was worried about Billie Jean too - and he had a good predecessor in Chris Cornell to set the stage on that song - but I really did like it.

I know, I really do like Ramiele. And Chikezie. Damn that Kristy Lee Cook for playing the patriotism card!!! She should be the one going!!! I'd take Syesha as my next one then if I got to choose.

I was totally a member of the Aussie Posse (for obvious reasons), and while he was awesome tonight, I am proud to say I'm officially on Team David Cook.

I think he's one of the most creative, interesting contestants that has ever appeared on the show.

I want to birth David Cook's baby.

That was amazing! I never liked that song, until now.

I heart him.

I so missed everything last night! I had to make sure I came to your site to see what really happened.

Anything David and Michael does seems to work. Well, that's my opinion and I'm sticking with it.

I loved David Cook, even if it was David doing Chris Cornell.

You nailed it!

I'll just link to your page instead of rewriting all the same thoughts on mine!!

I just have to add that my nephew (11yrs old) looks just like Jason Castro but without the dreads. Totally cracks me up to watch him!!

Were the judges going to the same event? You have Paula all dressed up for god knows what and Simon in a shirt with a droopy collar. Don't they pay him enough to get clothes that fit right? I'm still rooting for Jason, even though I do think he's stoned pretty much all the time. But David Cook totally changed my mind this week. He took a song that I really disliked and made me like it - all the members of my I Hate Michael Jackson group are going to have something to say about that :) And then there's Michael Johns - whoo boy!

Oh and I agree with Sizzle - the arm swaying has to go.

For some reason my dvr decided American Idol should no longer be recorded last night. I've given it a stern talking to and reset it... but oh I'm heartbroken that I missed last night. sniffle sniffle.

Really, your take on AI is the best ANYWHERE, week after week.

And what was with Randy Jackson? Squabble with the missus? Or is he one of those guys who gets all cranky when he's sick?

I thought Carly nailed an extremely hard song and got NO love for that.

And what do the judges have against Chikezie? The guy can SING! I love Chikezie.

Syesha & Ramielle can sing but are pretty generic. And that cute little partriot Kristie Lee Cook should stick to singing at minor league baseball games. Jason's getting boring. Michael Johns' sounding dull compared to David Cook. And adorable David A. had better stop singing good little boy songs before he winds up in the bottom 3.

Also, get rid of the squealing girls, swaying arms and Ryan Seacrest's increasing verging on ultra-cheesiness. I like Ryan when he's being normal.

Was also relieved that Paula's dress didn't rip off her shoulder.

I didn't think I could love David Cook more. And then last night happened. Oh. And he sang on American Idol. ::Snirk::

Ramielle annoys me, Jason Castro has no talent, I don't care for Syesha.

I thought Chikezie was great. ^5 with your little one.

Brooke doesn't really have the best voice, her songs are safe and sweet. But I like her.

Michael Johns is overrated. So is Carly. I cannot even watch her sing, she makes such odd faces.

David Arch is just too young, he doens't know enough songs!

Kristie Lee is interesting. I watch her through narrowed eyes, because I think she's up to something.

Who am I missing? Oh. David Cook. ::swoon::

Going home tonight? Ramielle.

I just started reading your blog recently. I'm an Idol addict. My husband and I love to predict the judges' critiques (well, Randy and Simon because who can follow the drivel that comes from Paula's incoherent mouth!).

We loved David Cook and as Canadians can say we hate the somewhat (can I be sort of politically incorrect here?) jingoistic songs like "God Bless the USA". I was gagging in my huge bowl of popcorn, but there you go, it's just me. And since I'm an American via my mother, I feel okay somewhat in slagging that song.

Anyway, our bottom three predictions are:

Chikezie (love him, hope he doesn't go)
Sayesha
Ramiele

GREAT synopsis! I think the bottom 3 tonight will be Ramielle, Syesha, and Chikezie. I like Chikeze most weeks but he disappointed me last night. I really dislike Kristy Lee Cook but you nailed it - she pulled out the patriotic ploy last night! Gah! Loved Michael Johns and David Cook last night. Should be a good show tonight!!

The votes have been a bit unpredictible so I don't know, but, my bottom three would be:

Jason
Syesha
Ramiele

And what was that song David A sang? I don't think I've ever heard that before. I agree with Simon's snarky comments.

We agree on so much - right down to the mystery gloves!

Yeah, Kristi Lee pissed me OFF tonight. How dare she be smarter than we gave her credit for? Dangit. Now I have to suffer through another week of her boredom. Bleck.

David C and Micheal J were the stars.

I can't stand Syesha and her white tongue--please stop taking drugs America and quit this nonsense of voting for her so she can go home! So what if she represents the black community and she is the only female left, it's American Idol for god's sake, vote for someone who can actually make it big, not a Whitney clone--she can go to off-Broadway or Broadway if she wants but I am bored out of my mind seeing her, enough already!
