American Idol: The Top Eight

All I can say is, bring on Bono and Brad Pitt. Because these kids blew it tonight. There *really* was not even *one* blow me away moment in the bunch.

MICHAEL JOHNS
Dream On
Are you fraking KIDDING ME!?! With the ascot - AGAIN? I used up all my country club jokes last week, because who thought he would be a moron and try to make it his signature look!?! And Randy was thrown off by the scarf too, cause he is *totally* Aerosmith. I mean, I am getting kind of bored and want something *different* from him because I am nothing if not fickle, but otherwise, it was OK.

SYESHA MERCADO
I Believe
"Ramiele was the only one who got me." Did anyone else catch that? Translation: I am as big a bitch as you all think and Ramiele, with her pink puffy heart soul, was the only one who could dredge up enough cotton candy to filter out my SNARK. And then she goes and sings ANOTHER rip-off song? Like a season finale rip-off song? Is she high? On her own snark? Sure she sang it well, but whatevah.

JASON CASTRO
Somewhere Over The Rainbow
Am I the only one who hated it? Who else thinks his voice is NOWHERE NEAR the quality of the others in this competition? That he should return his sound to Jack Johnson with a dozen roses and a love poem? No scratch that, that's too rude to Jack Johnson. Jack Johnson is wayyy better than Jason Castro. And not nearly as "zippy." I thought Jason sounded terrible, his voice is generic, and the ukulele was lame for a glorious song like Somewhere Over The rainbow.

KRISTY LEE COOK
Anyway
Another smart choice from the Marketing Queen of American Idol. She threatened us with some butt bounce dancing, she stood there in her classic rock one foot forward pose, but she really did have some nice notes in there. She might actually make it another week.

DAVID COOK
Innocent
He's been making me a fan, but... YUCK. The jacket, the crap song, the mumbling, the pretentiousness, the table dancing, even the hand signal... YUCK.

CARLY SMITHSON
The Show Must Go On
Simon was kidding about her outfit, cause she still looked like crap. In fact, I'm thinking she drudged through Cheryl Tieg's cast-offs for the tucked-in unitard and way-too-high pants, not to mention the shimmery 70's belt. Saasssy! And as for her singing, she *did* sound angry and not much of it showcased her voice at all. Overall, eh.

DAVID ARCHULETA
Angels
When they flashed the music sheet, I thought he was going to sing Train's Calling All Angels for a second and I got stoked. I have been dying for him to sing Train for forever and it would have been *perfect* for tonight. But he picked that pansy-ass other song of no accord. GRRR! OK, yes, there was about 20 seconds of REALLY REALLY GOOD, but they were about the only 20 seconds of awesome in the whole show.

BROOKE WHITE
You've Got A Friend
Um, seriously, WHAT WAS SHE WEARING AND WHO DID HER HAIR? Were they playing a trick on her? Was it Carly? Because girlfriend looked like ass. She sounded better than ass at least, but not stellar, and she is breaking under the pressure, which is, frankly, kind of annoying. Not that I could handle a fraction of the pressure that they are under, but that is why I don't try out for American Idol. That, and the fact that I can't sing.

=======================

As for bottom three?

Syesha
Kristy
Jason (wishful thinking there)

With Syesha going home.

You? (And what's the deal with tomorrow? Does someone get voted off while they are all happy happy joy joy and raising money?)

last year on the give back night, no one went home, but the votes were added to the next week and 2 people went home then. I'm guessing they'll do the same. I wasn't all that impressed with Smithson this week, maybe her instead of Jason... you never know though.

It's 3 nights of Idol this week - tonight (which I'm sorta glad I missed), tomorrow's gimme gimme gimme, then Thursday is you're fired night.

I want to be the show's stylist. Clearly someone needs to!

THANK YOU for saying that about Jason Castro's song. My hubby and both GROANED during his rendition, and we couldn't believe the judges ate it up. Ack!

And, reese is right, Thursday is the 'give 'em the boot' show.

My TiVO wasn't pleased with the move to Thursday, but I convinced it to record the last half hour. ;)

That version of Over the Rainbow is one of my all-time favorites. I actually said that he better not ruin it when he said what he would be singing during the intro video. If you could hear the one done by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole and compare it to Jason's interpretation, I have to give him credit -- he did it justice. But if you just don't like that version, then it probably didn't resonate.

Syesha finally wore her inner bitch for all to see tonight with her comment about Ramiele being "the only one..." I am so done with her and her ego-with-its-own-zip-code.

Nothing great tonight. But I did rewind the Tivo to hear Jason again. It really is one of my favorite songs, and I hope his studio version is worth buying.

I'm with ms. maxwell on Jason - I liked it. Thought it was a lovely rendition of the toned down version which I have always loved.

Beyond that I completely agree with you though I must have been in a better mood when I was writing :-) It definitely was not a great night overall in the least.

And yes, the kicking off will be done Thursday.

I HATE SYESHA!

(I know you know this.)

I was bored throughout the show. Actually, I am watching it right now and I'm at David Cook's. He WAS pretentious in it but no one matches Syesha in her pompousness.

Seriously, where is Tanya Harding when you need her? I think we need a hit out on her or something.

Kristy Lee Cook bugs. I think she's going home tomorrow...her or Brooke.

Wow! Crabby much? :-) Aimmee needs a drink!

Tomorrow they have the Idol Gives Back and then on Thursday they have the elimination.

I totally disagree about Jason. I got Goosebumps. I thought he was great.
And yes, Brooke did look like ass.

My favorites are *usually* David Cook, Brooke and Carly ... and I didn't like any of them this week.

I usually can't stand Jason, Kristy or Syesha. I still can't stand Syesha, but I *liked* Jason and Kristy this week.

Bottom 3:
Syesha
Michael and his ascot
Brooke or maybe Carly

With Syesha going home.

Oh, and what was up with Paula's boobs trying to escape her dress? Not a good look!

Yea yea, I was grumpy I guess, I just wasn't feelin it! Maybe they were just nervous... also I got the feeling the have been run ragged this week... but I just think they all were not so great this week.

As for Somewhere Over The Rainbow... I listened to Israel Kamakawiwo'ole and I do like it. I also listened to Jason without the performance and it was better than way. STILL NOT GOOD. Here is his problem. He can't control his Mmmbop and shoulder bounce and that was part of what ruined it for me... felt like it was trivializing it. And overall, his voice is JUST NOT STRONG. I'm sorry, but it's not.

And on the same note, I totally agree that Syesha's voice is WAY stronger than Brooke's but Syesha is a wench and I can't wait for her to go.

OOf. I am crabby. ;)

For what it's worth, I love the song Somewhere Over the Rainbow, even the ukulele version (because it is what it is)...but (like I said above) I just can't stand the way Jason did it.

For what it's worth, my two-yr old LOVED his version. Maybe he needs a spot on Sesame Street when this is all said and done? ;)

I'm loving your idol recaps!

I have to say, though, I absolutely love that version of Over the Rainbow (I danced to it at my wedding), and I loved Jason Castro last night.

I also have a special place in my heart for Angels by Robbie Williams, but I HATED David Archuletta and was shocked how much the judges like it!

But my personal bottom three for last night were:
David Cook
Syesha
Carly

I love me some Robbie Williams too! I was just really hoping for Train, cause I think he could BELT out Train.

And Declan (5) loved Jason too. But he is so kind-hearted, he loves them all. While Bryan and I are making gagging faces over his head.

Last night was just awful. I didn't love anyone's performance, and the ones I usually cheer for sounded just as lame as everyone else. Sigh.

Our PVR (think Canadian version of TIVO) didn't work last night and so when we got back, we discovered we had missed the show. Now I'm really glad after reading your post!

Let us not forget when Carly used Simon's facial expression as her excuse for doing a lousy job. "Well, I looked at Simon in the middle of the song and it messed me up... (insert whiny voice)" or something along those lines. Blah, blah, blah. I was very annoyed that she blamed her singing on Simon when he looks like that during EVERY performance! I so do NOT enjoy her back-talk and excuses! And her outfit was hideous yet again!

They are sending someone home Thursday not tonight during Idol gives back which is good because I won't be home tonight. I found you via Whiskey nd her post on your Earth Day auction, awesome idea. May have to see if Micheyla will offer some of her drawings up for it. I am hooked. Pop by my main blog if you are interested on my take for Idol, I also review Hell's Kitchen currently, and babble often.

So I've decided when they ask me to be the guest judge, cause you know that's right around the corner:), I'll just say "Hated it so it must be good" because feelings are usually in direct opposite of what the judges think (when they're all agreed). I love the Over the Rainbow version Jason did but didn't like his take on it at all. And I thought David A really stank. We were wondering if Brooke stole all Carly's cool clothes ... and what was with the tears? You can't stand the judging, go home. It's not going to get any easier. I'm fed up with her. At least she got the message about placating the audience while talking over the judges. If I heard one more 'It's okay' - cue screaming:}

Oh, and did Paula get her dates mixed up? Is she coming to Idol gives back in ripped jeans and torn t-shirt? Really, with her entourage, does she NOT have a dresser or at least one person who will tell her 'that's not appropriate?'

I dunno, Aimee, I always end up disagreeing with you!!

I loved Jason. I love that version of that song, have for a long time, and out of everyone, I liked him the best last night.

I will never stop loving David Cook, so it doesn't matter if his jacket made him look like he had escaped an asylum. And the smarmy hand thing must have been meant just for me because I Ate It Up.

I am completely over everyone but David. Let's just wrap this up and call him the winner already.

WOW! You guys are all a bunch of meanies! I'm with your boy Declan, I like most of them! The only one I've been wishing off every week is Syesha. I love Michael and both Davids, and though Jason isn't good enough to win, don't tell me it wouldn't get to you to have him sing you a love song outside your bedroom window (providing your hubby wasn't home, that is!)!

You are funny, though:)

I am so onboard with how mediocore Idol was this week! Blah.

But - that said, I still have a "thing" for that Michael Johns Aussie guy (minus the silly scarf of course!). My hubby and I think he's a little Jim Morrison vibe going on. Very cool. He and David Cook have been my top 2 this season...but David was for sure yucky this week! UGh.

Your posts make me want to watch American Idol. I don't because I can't afford to purchase a new tv after my husband kicks the tube in because of his Simon-directed rage. My husband is very mild, so his reaction to Simon is freaking odd.

Have you read the Go Fug Yourself review of Brooke's outfit? You'll love it.

Unless you are a millionaire stranded on a tropical island with six other people -- including a movie star, a professor, a skipper, and a bumbling idiot -- you should not wear an ascot.

lol - I've done a few idol recaps, but your recaps kick mine's ass! glad I'm not the only one hounding the ascot... did you see the inappropriate signage in the audience when little david sang? Hmmm, did ya?

and paula's booboos were gonna POP! eek!
