American Idol: The Top Nine

Hey, check me out, posting three times in one day!

But I really liked Dolly Parton night! And I was seriously psyching myself out to hate it. But I think what is nice about her songs as compared to regular country night (gag gag) is that she is actually a good songwriter and when you have a good songwriter, the songs can be molded into a variety of styles.

BROOKE WHITE
Jolene
I didn't think it was brush-with-greatness-awesome, but it was good-solid-good. It was nice to hear a different twang in her voice - but let's be honest, she hit a couple wonky notes here and there. Overall, very nice, though.

DAVID COOK
Little Sparrow
He gets a rrreeoooowww for the haircut! And also a thumbs up for the performance. And he clearly has been reading the forums, to feel the need to address the cover of a cover controversy. Which was, again, a problem Daughtry had too and it didn't hurt him any in the long run, did it?

RAMIELE MALUBAY
Do I Ever Cross Your Mind?
Cute as a button and not nearly a good enough. I can't imagine how she is going to avoid elimination this week.

JASON CASTRO
Travelin' Through
Well, I have to give him credit, he stepped it up quite a bit this week. Sang way better and only looked half-stoned. And I give him *and Dolly* bonus points for Dolly calling him funky looking. And how about "I would dread to have to do those locks" and then shaking her hand off like it had cooties?! A total highlight moment in the show. P.S. The postcard from Colorado was not from me.

CARLY SMITHSON
Here You Come Again
AWWW, SNAP! Simon voices what we all have been saying for weeks. Carly's response? "Aye, aye matey!" Meaning, what the hell was up with the buccaneer outfit this week??? And AGAIN with the sleeveless shirt. YES, we know you have a BIG HONKING TATTOO there. And if we didn't, we would get a clue every time they flash your husband. Here's an idea. Wear SLEEVES and I promise it will seem like you have lost 10 pounds because you won't look like a big truck driver anymore, and you can throw away your spanx. (Clearly she is KILLING me with her clothing choices, so even though he's a meanie, I am glad Simon said something.). Oh wait, I am supposed to comment on her singing. It was nice.

DAVID ARCHULETA
Smoky Mountain Memories
Kristy leaned in to him after last week's show, whispered in his ear and said, "Make sure you pick a song that mentions Jesus and Goddy stuff, dude. It's like, soooo awesome." At least he sang it really well.

KRISTY LEE COOK
Coat of Many Colors
The only other thing that gets more votes than God are songs about poor people. The girl is a fucking genius. She's got another bye week.

SYESHA MERCADO
I Will Always Love You
As soon as I heard it was Dolly Parton week, I *knew* Syesha would pick this song because she tries to go toe-to-toe with the big singers every chance she gets. Miss a chance to show up Whitney Houston? No way! And she really did sing very well! But did you see how she was NOT havin' the comments from the judges? She was TOTALLY expecting them to eat her up with a spoon. Whatever. Ramiele may have a tiny glimmer of hope if enough people see through her act, but I doubt it.

MICHAEL JOHNS
It's All Wrong, But It's All Right
I say, did anyone see my polo gear? No? How about my Aston Martin? I seem to have left it over here on the side of the stage. OK, well, anyway. I am going to go up there right now and SING MY ASS OFF. Bam! Loved it! Homerun number two for the Hot Aussie.

==================

So, bottom three?

Ramiele Malubay
Jason Castro
Kristy Lee Cook or Syesha Mercado

Bye bye little Ramiele.

I concur with everything you said. Especially about the clothing on Carly. The clothes were illfitting and unflattering. I think we should send in a shrug or a pashmina for that poor girl so she can cover up her arms. Not only does her tattoo upstage her, she just looks the same week after week.

Here's something that I've been thinking about since I downloaded 6 of the studio versions of songs from iTunes last week: AI really needs to figure out a better way to weave this new option into the competition. For the ones who struggle with clothing choices (Carly! Ugh! Agree!)or lack of ability in dancing on stage (Brooke...those octopus arms and legs!) or overall goofiness (Chikezie), the studio versions of the songs are a whole different dimension to consider. I mean, realistically, how many people are going to SEE these people in concert? Most will just listen. And IMHO, that is why the studio versions of the songs are a better reflection of whether they are a winner or not. David Cook is a slam dunk in the studio...and YES, his hair this week is PHENOM.

Maxwell, that's why I like to sometimes go back and listen to Rickey's audio only files of the recordings when doing the reviews too... it's totally different vibe without the performance.

I really hate Syesha. She's too full of herself and because of that, I find her singing off-putting. And Ramielle is like a wind up toy with her little dancing. I just don't like either of them regardless if they can carry a tune.

Your comments about Carly are true. I hope the girl gets some fashion help! her make up usually looks great.

No kidding re Carly's clothes (and hairstyle). She just makes herself look hideous with the outfits she chooses. Okay, not hideous... but definitely not star potential.

And for the life of me I can't understand why contestants pick Whitney or Celine songs. The judges never, ever, ever, say anything favourable.

In my opinion, David has already won the competition, even if he doesn't win on the actual day. Love him. Love his music. (And thank god someone fixed his hair.)

Thanks for the weekly Idol updates. Love reading them!

Ok....GOOD!! We are agreeing again!! LOL

One of the things that bothered me about the Diva's performance...is that she SMILED through the entire song. "I will always love you" is NOT a happy song!! WTH??

And has anyone heard about David C being rushed to the hospital after the show last night? I heard the end part on the radio this morning.

You rock!

I did a cartwheel when Simon told Carly to have a talk with whoever is dressing her. Yay! So not politically correct but so on the money! I dig Simon for telling it like it is.

I don't get Brooke. I find her voice scratchy and break-y.

I don't think Kristy will make the bottom 3 even though she really should have gone weeks ago when she murdered 8 days a week.

I think either Syesha or Ramiele is out. Probably Ramiele.

I totally despised last night. I couldn't wait for it to end. Such a bummer...

I agree with you on everyone. Except I don't think Michael Johns is as good as everyone says he is.

And yes, bye bye Rami

If Carly doesn't start dressing better, I think I'll stab myself in the eyeball.

I think once you've become boringly predictable, it's over. Syesha. Syesha. Syesha.

At this point in the game, I'm gonna be so disappointed if David Cook doesn't win. I like him more and more every week.
