American Idol - The Top Seven

OK, this is going to be short and sweet for two reasons. First, I am pooped. Second, overall, I think everyone did well (and the judges are on their periods). And when people do well, there is not much to say.

DAVID ARCHULETA
When You Believe
Schmaltzy song, sung well. I hope he picks a more hip song for next week, but other than that - I still love this kid.

CARLY SMITHSON
Without You
Hot damn, Carly finally finally finally looked A-W-E-S-O-M-E tonight. And I think she sounded awesome too. Judges had cotton in their ears, or Carly is pissing people off behind the scenes, or something. Miss Oirish is back in *my* good graces at least.

SYESHA MERCADO
Vanishing
I kind of have to feel for her. We all rag on her for picking well known songs and then picks an obscure song and still gets grief. Oh, whatever, she's still a wench and I can't wait for her to leave. No matter how well she sings. She better go this week, or Sizzle is going to boycott the show, and THEN where I be?

BROOKE WHITE
Hero
Again, I thought the judges were harsh. Sure, Brooke doesn't have a power ballad voice, but I thought she did a really nice version of the song that suited her style.

KRISTY LEE COOK
Forever
Some nice notes, some "eh" notes. I am thinking I should declare her the winner for a change, and then maybe she will actually go home this week. - Naaahhhh!

DAVID COOK
Always Be My Baby
He's back!

JASON CASTRO
I Don't Wanna Cry
It definitely was a luau version of the song, because THAT'S JASON CASTRO. However, he held off his syrupy smile and did much better this week.

I have to say I have always like Mariah Carey, as far as pop singers go. I am not kidding! I seriously adore Vision of Love. Mariah herself is kind of a freak, but she was better than some mentors have been, that's for sure.

So, bottom three?

SYESHA
KRISTY
BROOKE

With SYESHA (please please please) going home.

And you?

I love David Cook! Since my boy went home last week.....David is the man.

I hope, too, that is is Syesha. I just don't like her.

Love your recaps every week!

I am not a Mariah fan in general, but I have to respect her voice and range. And I knew it would be a tough night because of Randy's connection to her.

Anyhoo, I watched the {{{hugs}}} with interest. Mariah has the rep of a diva, and the lack of welcome hug and plastic-ation of the thank you hug from Syesha made me laugh out loud. TWO divas. One senior, one junior-in-training. Syesha has got to go after tonight, great voice or not. Can't stand her.

I loved that Brooke just wrapped her sincere, flailing arms right around Mariah and let her genuine sweet self out. Her song was good and fitting to her personality. I hope her studio version is good.

David Cook -- still the winner. GREAT.

Jason was authentic Jason. Again, I think the studio version will be really good (last week's Over the Rainbow was fantastic in the studio version. Great value for a dollar!).

Agree with Simon -- the guys rocked this week.

Long comment. Sorry, should have done my own post. But yours are so much fun to read and comment on because I agree with 94% of what you write. Maybe we should meet at Delicate Arch and talk American Idol! :-)

I really don't think it needs to be said but: I HATE SYESHA.

Ok, I haven't really watched the show because I was busy cutting and coloring my hair. I will watch it tomorrow before the results.

I actually didn't think David Cook sounded that great but maybe I need to listen without the foil in my hair?

I have to do my review yet...I am afraid if America listens to the judges Carly could go home. I think it should be Syesha or Kristy.

I want Kristy to go home, how she's stayed so long is beyond me.

And I just don't get the David Cook thing. I think he's a cocky ass. Sorry.

I do like Jason, he's definitely his own man.

I would be tickled pink if Kristy or Syesha would go home. Kristy looked and sounded like a Patsy Cline wanna be and Syesha looked like she was trying to be on Solid Gold.

I agree with you, the judges had cotton in their ears.

David Cook was Fan-fucking-tastic! I can not wait to buy his album!

This was the first time I enjoyed everyones performances...well everyone except Kristy Lee!!

I think I'm with ya. I like Brooke but I think it;s her time actually - she's just not as good a singer as the others...

David Cooke is phenomenal!

I'm with you on the bottom three. I'm afraid Carly is going home, though...Simon just doesn't seem to like her.

BUT, if there is any justice in this world, it will be Kristi Lee or Syesha (please, let there be justice!).

I completely agree with your bottom three and the one to go home, although I fear Carly will bottom out this week.

David Cook and Jason were my two favorites last night. Mostly because I'm so damn impressed at how they have the musical ability to take a song and rework it to their own style.

I thought that David Cook and Jason Castro were the two who took the songs and made them sound un-like Mariah Carey, who I must say I never really liked but I am impressed with her talent! It really bothered me the way Syesha practically turned around to follow the camera with her eyes at the end. I'm sure they tell them to sing to the camera, but common sense has to kick in somewhere and tell her not to turn her back on the audience. It's just way too pretentious.

I must admit that I'm not a fan of Mariah, but David Cook's version of that song ROCKED. Wow. I was blown away. I can't wait to see who leaves tonight.

And, I'm relatively new to the whole American Idol craze, so I have a quick question...do we ever get to see who has the top score? Just curious...

Kristy's got to be in trouble this week because she couldn't sing about patriotism or po' folk this week.

Or Syesha could go home. Either way I'd be relieved.

David Cook has been my favorite since week 2 and nothing is going to change that. And he made me cry this week. I know he was crying because his brother who has brain cancer was in the audience, and that just turned me into a sniveling little mess. I heart that boy.

As for the rest...eh. I always try to hear in my head their songs if they were on the radio and for the life of me I can't figure out what kind of music David Arch is going to sing. He's got a beautiful voice, but so does Josh Groban, and em...not a lot of top 40 hits there. I don't think he can win this.

Go Home Syesha!

I'm all about David Cook.

Jason and the two blondes really bug me. Even more than Syesha which I never thought was possible.

I think David Cook already won the competition, whether or not he actually "wins".

Good week though and I was dreading it when I heard it was Mariah songs!

I'm still sad that Michael got the boot, but David kicks butt!

bottom three-
Syesha
Jason
Kristy

bye, bye Syesha...although I think Kristy will get voted off this week, but I WISH it would be Syesha!
