Yup. Twelve years ago, Bryan and I tied the knot. Down south in the Ken Caryl Valley at the house where the owner of the ranch used to preside over huge tracts of land (where huge tracts of house now stand). The funny part was we had only lived in Colorado a short time, and didn't realize that most Memorial Days have terrible weather. (In fact, we've gotten off really easy this current weekend with only some gray skies today.) But 12 years ago? Snow. Yes, you read that right. SNOW. And we had planned an outdoor wedding.
It turned out OK. We moved indoors next to the fire and all our photos have a misty, romantic quality.
And over the years, we have been lucky enough to grow up together. Looking back now, we were definitely kids when we got married at age 26. We've worked hard at our marriage every day. It hasn't been perfect every day, but we most definitely have loved each other every day.
I had a conversation with a friend at a graduation party over the weekend (P.S., congrats Ian!) and we talked about how easy it can be for a marriage to take a fork in the road. How one partner can go in a separate direction and how it takes constant adjustments and communication to keep on track. And a whole lot of luck that the two halves are moving down the same road in life.
So, Bryan, thank you. For always taking the time to keep us on the same road. For always making me laugh. For always listening to me. For always making me feel special.
Happy anniversary, babe. I love you.
