American Idol Recap: Top 3... And OMG, You Aren't Going To Believe This!

Before I go on to my usual American Idol snarkiness, I have to tell you something.

Sometime, somewhere, in your life, if you snark and tease enough, something good may actually come from it. Because after all these years of loving on, while simultaneously making fun of, all those contestants from American Idol - yes, it has FINALLY paid off.

On May 26, in Los Angeles, at the Nokia Theater, I will be watching the finale of American Idol FROM THE AUDIENCE.

Holy crap!

I can't figure out how this happened either. Other than I have a history with the Ford Fusion and they are ready to unleash me on the Ford Fiesta.

I mean this literally.

There is a Ford Fiesta drive event during the day, the details of which I am not clear on yet - but people in LA? You might want to stay inside next Wednesday just to be safe.

And then later in the evening, my BF Danielle and I get to attend the taping of, yes, I am still weirded out as I type this, the American Idol Season 9 finale. The one where they announce the winner. Made even more special as it will be Simon's VERY. LAST. SHOW. EVER.

The most pertinent question that comes to mind is this:

WHAT THE HELL DO I WEAR????

I am not joking with that question. I want explicit instructions, with links, in the comments.

Bryan thinks I should auction off signage space, so I can hold up posterboards like "I'm jellin with Ellen!" - but that would be SO GAUCHE.

In the meantime, HOLY CRAP! I AM GOING TO THE AMERICAN IDOL FINALE.

Seriously. Wish me luck. I will totally need it not to barf all over Ryan Seacrest. Not that I am going to actually meet Ryan Seacrest. Am I, Ford? No. No way. But knowing me, I will barf while waving at the back of Ryan's head, so definitely.

Still need all your luck.

OK. Serious blogging business now.

CASEY JAMES
Casey was nice and fluffy. Especially on the Eric Hutchison song, a singer whom I love, as witnessed here. (In fact, the song I had on that Greeblemix would have been a better Eric Hutchinson song for Casey.) But the judges were right - Casey has a propensity to be so laid back, that he has come off like he doesn't even care about the competition, which is unfortunate for him - I think he *does* care. Why else would he put up with all the Kara Sugar Mama garbage all this time, right? Having said that: 1. Daughters is probably my LEAST favorite John Mayer song EVER. 2. He showed lovely tone in his voice as he sang it. 3. In fact, I think he did a better job of Daughters than the original. 4. Which still isn't saying much. I do think he is the one going home tomorrow, I do think the judges have all groomed him to be the one going home tomorrow, and I also think even CASEY thinks he is the one going home tomorrow. Wouldn't it be funny if I end up seeing him sing in LA?

CRYSTAL BOWERSOX
Crystal is interesting to me. I read somewhere that she nearly walked out on the show midway (who knows if that is true) and Ryan talked her into staying (more reason to doubt the story) - but I will say she *also* seems uninterested in winning. In her case, I think it is a *real* disinterest, and a testament that she never thought she would go this far in the competition, and she is probably a bit freaked out by the pomp and circumstance of the show. This is all my conjecture of course, but I will let you know after she and I get all cozy in LA next week. Again, kidding. I am guessing you all will have a better view of the stage form the TV than we will. Which is ALL GOOD because did I mention I have NO IDEA WHAT TO WEAR??? Either way, Crystal is stuck. There is NO WAY she is not making the finals. NO WAY. And if she does NOT make the finals, maybe she can lend me some clothes??? PLUHEASE?

LEE DEWYZE
Que the choir, the producers and judges have CLEARLY picked their winner! And as much as I really like Lee, and would have NO PROBLEM with him winning, the pimping that goes on at the end is SO HILARIOUS! Simon WINKING?! Randy GUSHING!?! Ten people surrounding him in church clothes on a song that would have been SO MUCH BETTER him there with his guitar!?!? I am serious on that. Hallelujah is a fantastic song, I've said that many times, have also said the best version ever is Jeff Buckley's, just my opinion, THAT IS TRUE. But, the manufactured moment was almost too over the top for me. Luckily Lee himself seemed so overwhelmed by everything and wants this SO BADLY. I can't help but root for him too.

Honestly. This is the first season in forever that I have liked everyone. Except Aaron Kelly.

Seriously, dudes. I CANNOT WAIT for next week.

I wasn't home so didn't watch it, but they had him sing Hallelujah? I love it. Love it. But covers are the great cliche of the millennium and I just wonder when, if ever, they will stop. FREE BIRD!

Whatever. I couldn't care less about either of those boys. I love Crystal. I thinkshe's a badass because like you said, she just isn't down with the extraneous stuff. I think she'll be okay regardless - that voice has been heard and that's awesome.

I have no ideas about clothing, except to be comfortable and be you and that is always fine. You always look nice. Have fun!

And I meant Hallelujah covers, to be clear.

Damned if "the minor chord/ the major life" verse isn't one of the best ones ever written anywhere. Now I'm thinking about it. But still. :)

I started watching AI for the first time this season midway in because a friend of a friend was Shioban's uncle. When she got booted I was so grateful to be able to stop.

The late Jeff Buckley is the only person who has ever done Hallelujah solidly.

If I were going, I'd wear my best jeans. Does that help? (Have a blast!)

Going to have to disagree.
The best version of Hallelujah is Rufus Wainwrights.

(Don't watch the show. But I really wish they'd leave this song alone.)

I love Hallelujah and think that Lee's cover was pretty weak. I've heard better covers by at least a half dozen artists (I especially love Rufus Wainwright). Lee was okay, but no where near worthy of all of that gushing praise.

Have a fantastic time in LA. It sounds like a great excuse for clothes shopping.

I love Crystal and her hip, I'm-too-cool attitude because she really is too cool for AI. And I love Lee because he is an alternative school kid made good. So either way, I'm good, though Crystal's version of Bobby McGee MADE her a rock star in my eyes...

How cool that you're going! If you see Britney Spears, give her my digits!

Darn - all the years of AI snark has been overheard...but it couldn't happen to a better person! Have fun, and wear a great bra (all clothing looks better when the girls are happy).

HAHAHAHA!! That's awesome!! omg.
You're gonna have a great time!! Lee is gonna win, and that's fine. He can take the more commercial, groomed role, and Crystal can go on to bigger and better WAY sooner than he will. Casey just didn't ROCK it like we know he could, I thought he seemd boring.
Now, I think as long as you don't wear anything from Siobhan's closet you'll be FINE...but I would say take some ear plugs for all those screamin mimis! geeze.

It's cool to have won something eh?!?!

I stopped back by to see if anyone gave great clothing advice (because I need some too, #selfish) And clearly you are meant to wear Ugg boots and Ed Hardy.

Please don't.
