New York City ... For The First Time

I know I keep saying it, but I'm *so* far behind on photo editing. Partly because so many of them were from our first EVER trip to New York City, and frankly, I didn't want to rush. I wanted to savor the editing, to relive every moment.

The trip was during the BlogHer conference in August 2010, where we attended the conference on the "party pass" and packed in sightseeing during the day.

And MAN - we crammed a whole lot in. Times Square, Top of the Rock, The Met, Theater District, Statue of Liberty, Staten Island Ferry, SoHo, Greenwich Village, Chinatown, Little Italy, Wall Street, World Trade Center, Central Park - we trekked EVERYWHERE.

We tried to do as much as possible, because - even though both Bryan and I grew up in Maryland - we had never been to the Big Apple.

I KNOW.

I couldn't believe it either.

It just never worked out for either of us growing up. And then we moved to Denver in 1994 and we traveled all around everywhere else for a while - never making it back to the northeast, except for family trips to Maryland.

For this trip, we detoured through Maryland too, dropping Declan off with family, then hopping the train north.

It was fantastic. From beginning to end.

Hot, stinky, exciting, fabulous New York City.

I was quite overwhelmed at first, but Bryan got into the groove immediately. The pace of the city matches him perfectly.

Once I started snapping photos - I felt better.

Oh yes, NYC - we *will* be back.

We were there in July when I was about 500 months pregnant, and I swear by the stink of New York that you and I saw the same guy in the subway. At about 2:47 in the video, the guy with the earbuds looking oh so disenchanted? THAT GUY gave up his seat for me in the subway. Now, Phil will just laugh at me and say that I think all Asians look alike, but I'm telling ya... THAT is the guy.

Addendum: Phil would say that because he is a crass stand-up comedian, not because I'm a d-bag.

I love everything about this. So great. One of the best things about not living in NYC anymore is being able to see things I filtered out before. Your vision is sparkling. Thanks for sharing this.

I have been to New York a few times, but just for very short trips and haven't done most of what you did. You got a LOT in! I adore NY, but it's been about 10 years. Need to go back.

I adore Washington DC. I adore Paris. I would like to say I adore London, but I was so jet lagged when we were there, I don't remember much. I'd like to go back. I'd like to take my husband to Alaska, as I've been but he hasn't. I'd like to go to Florence, and Athens. Oh, so many places, so little money. Sigh.

Your video gave me goosebumps. I've wanted to go to NYC forever but even more so since I started taking photos.

I'm always worried about being overwhelmed though and I think I would have to go with someone who has been there before.

Just Awesome!
